Donovan Crane's grandparents were left behind on Earth when the exodus occurred, but they found refuge among the Scrappers in their underground shelters which had survived the impact of Mayday Omega. Like all Scrappers, they aged unnaturally fast due to exposure to Starfall, but they still managed to have children before dying. Donovan's parents shared the same fate, dying not long after giving birth to him.
He was left an orphan to fend for himself, fighting tooth and nail just to survive. Donovan quickly realized that in this new world, information was the most valuable resource. Whoever controlled the information could acquire power—the one thing Donovan had never had. Donovan attracted a group of ragtag followers that came to be known as "The Pack." This group of desperate criminals managed to maintain relations with both the corporations and Scrappers in the midst of their conflict. This success was based on information that Donovan and his people secured from all sides. Donovan was caught during one of his robberies by a powerful corporation and beaten nearly to death before being released.
From that point on, Donovan's schemes were largely aimed at getting revenge on that corporation. In another attempted raid on one of their facilities, Donovan and his fellow thieves were exposed to Starfall. When Donovan was the only survivor, his captors knew something was different.
Knowing a Scrapper would never be missed or investigated, the corporation experimented on Donovan, brainwashing him and eventually turning him into a Hunter. However, this did not last long. Something in Donovan's new mental programming failed. The details are still unknown, but somehow Donovan, as a Hunter, escaped the corporation and now represents the Scrappers, though his Hunter form is dramatically different.
