Coldfire PMC
Coldfire PMC began as a small, Spartan-like private military group best known for being mercenaries for hire, often brought in to quash rebellions or assist coups. They were one of the few major private military companies to survive the repeated economic crises before the announcement of Mayday Omega. They were hired by B.E.S.T. (the Board of Earth-Space Transition) during the Mayday Omega crisis to ensure an orderly exodus from Earth for those who qualified. They guarded the perimeters of the shuttles that were launching to the safety of space from those who were unworthy of escaping Earth.
Coldfire's manpower quickly proved insufficient to deal with the enormous crowds of people demanding to leave Earth before its doom arrived. Consequently, they recruited heavily and grew quickly to an army in their own right. In the chaos of the times and with a lack of any cohesive legal authority, they became effective law enforcement anywhere they worked. No one could argue with their might.
Coldfire splintered from B.E.S.T. after General Max Sturm mounted a revolt. Sturm was disgusted by B.E.S.T.'s weak stance against the rise of corporations as he witnessed them grow in money, power, and influence. Sturm quickly amassed great wealth and influence from Starfall deal-making, protection, racketeering, and other illicit activities. This wealth has modernized their arsenal, which is brimming with state-of-the-art weapons, technology, and a successful Hunter program.
The company spread throughout all the stations in the colonies as peacekeepers or police forces for hire. Corporations hire them to maintain the status quo and keep workers and citizens in their places in the colony. Though Coldfire specializes in non-lethal weapons that are safe to use in space stations, rumors abound about their Research and Development division creating weapons of mass destruction and all forms of lethal devices.
Though Coldfire maintains a presence in nearly every station and ship of the new colony, they are based on asteroid Apostolis, where they mine and refine metals to build their Hunters and destructive weapons. Here, they have perfected hologram-based training simulations for their soldiers and developed a full-spectrum arsenal. The appeal of working for Coldfire for the average citizen is high, as soldiers enjoy excellent pay and many less tangible benefits. Though they live in modest, steel-walled quarters aboard the colony stations owned by the PMC, workers enjoy many perks such as free food from local vendors who pay them for protection and priority for any and all services.
Each operative is granted a generous two-child policy so long as they agree that Coldfire gets the first option on recruiting any offspring as future "cadets." Sturm was and remains hell bent on winning all available Starfall and seizing control of the High Frontier (Earth's new colony of space stations) from B.E.S.T. Though the PMC has contracts through B.E.S.T. and the private corporations, Sturm still despises their policies and dreams of a day when he can effectively replace these faux governments with real, stern authority. His authority.
